BBC, Teri, & Beth: Thank you all for your comments. I will be trying to compose an essay about them in the next few days. Today, however, I am going to start a new "feature" to try to help me better understand my pipe smoking and perchance eventually eliminate it from my day-to-day life. On each blog entry I post, I will record a) my goal number of bowls of pipe tobacco to smoke that day, b) the previous entry's goal for that day, and c) what my actual number was that day. It will look something like this:
Pipe Record
Goal for today Friday = 6 bowls
Last Goal = 2 bowls
Actual Consumption = 5 bowls, (150% above goal)
Perhaps this will be the kick in the head I need to become successful? I do not know, but it is what I am trying now. An estimate of what my current, unrestricted, pipe consumption is around 8-10 bowls a day. So, even though my goal for today is higher, it is still a bit of a reduction.

I appreciate all forms of comments on my writings. I find that I miss the sponteneity of coming to read them here when they were unmoderated. I believe I wrote less due to the moderation. I have decided to adopt limited moderation. Hopefully the prior problems with unfettered comments will not arise again. Please feel free to comment as you wish about the essays I write. I will maintain those comments that offer kind-hearted and gentle opinion... be it positive or negative. The opinions of your comments will, of course, need to have relevance to the post as well.
This is how my own blog started (and, I think, how I found you and, thereby, the others with whom I now chat)...it was originally a stop-smoking blog. Somehow I veered well off of that path. I hope you have much better luck! I'll keep watching and cheering you on!

I would give you support like Doc Teri but I'm to experienced to see the bullshit of giving you false hope.
They may have a good stop smoking program there though, I don't think it's something you can master alone, unless you are in jail or stuck out in the woods for ten days without tobacco.
Laural Ann, one of my favorite women in this area cuz she's a real sweetheart (married to an asshole, but a rich asshole), was only able to stop smoking because of some program with a support group.
ReplyDeleteI took it with a grain of salt back when she told me about it but I'd better shoot her an email and ask her what program it was, maybe it would help my sorry ass stop smoking.
I did not realize that Doc Teri started her blog as a path toward stopping smoking. I can't decide if a blog would be useful for that, maybe if it stuck to only that subject? Maybe I got her side tracked? That wouldn't help.
ReplyDeleteI don't think a nonsmoking blog or forum would be very useful for me but it may help. I whine about humans a lot but actually like to be around them when we have like minded interests, like the black powder club.
I think I'd do better in a local support group where I go talk to others in person. It's like when I taught a computer class at the library and would tell my students that while computers are really cool and useful you can't beat the warmth of a book.
Others in a local support group would be like the warmth of a book compared to the cold pages of a computer screen.
I'm just tossing some thoughts out here, maybe both together would work well?
Anyway, got up this morning and before starting the coffee I filled a bowl for some puffs. The bowl on my pipe is about half the size of Pipe bowls and I try to keep it to one bowl an hour but often fail at that.

ReplyDeleteFor some reason blog visits and comments go down on the weekends, except in my case, one day is the same as the other to me, and Doc Teri went fishing today (bless her little heart) but maybe she'll have more to say here when she returns.
ReplyDeleteI got up this morning and packed a bowl and took some puffs, then I started a pot of coffee, that is how it works for me and there's no point in me trying to fool myself that is going to change.

Ever try patches? Slapping on some patches and puffing away is cool. So much for that. :-)

Jane is cool, a sweetie pie.
But it would be a long trip for her, I favor the Big Hole Basin in Montana, absolutely beautiful up there in the summer.
ReplyDeleteI know about a remote lake there with a campground next to it that others seldom visit and there's nice trout in it.
The lake isn't too far from WISDOM, a cool little town in it's own right, with a free campground on the edge of it.

ReplyDeleteBesides, it looks like my daughter will be moving to Montana in May to do her doctoral externship...I plan to be frequenting that state. She and her boyfriend are outdoorsy types so she landed a post in Bozeman. It'll be hard - she's my oldest, only daughter, and I haven't gone for any time at all without seeing her (she goes to the U here). At least I know where I'll be taking the boys on vacation!

ReplyDeleteI'd scrub the moss off the 12 footer and take the electric motor, it would do.
I have extra tents and such in the gear trailer.
Bozeman is okay, I moved here from Montana so know it. If she goes up to Great Falls (or maybe it's Helena) for a visit, there's a joint in the heart of the old mining district that used to be a whorehouse that has good giant prawns.
