Mass Readings

In listening to the readings at Mass this week, I found the following excerpt to be especially relevant for me:

"He instructed them to take nothing for the journey
but a walking stick—
no food, no sack, no money in their belts.
They were, however, to wear sandals."

My wife and I have been working quite strenuously to try to declutter our lives.  We have had garage sales, and have donated a helluva lot of stuff to St. Vincent DePaul and Goodwill during the last year.  It has truly been very helpful.  Having less stuff feels freeing.  Having less clutter helps in so many ways.  We both admit that it is hard to give up stuff at times, but we both also admit it has been very good.  We still have a ways to go, but after hearing the above at Mass, we both feel more motivated to continue this effort.

  1. I left a hell of a lot of stuff in Washington when I moved, just walked away from it all. Decided that collecting too much stuff is a mental illness.

  2. i hope those guys weren't going for a long journey with no food etc.

i've given a few truck loads of stuff to goodwill recently. i couldn't stand the thought of a bunch of vultures coming to a garage sale to grab my parents stuff on the cheap.

I appreciate all forms of comments on my writings. I find that I miss the sponteneity of coming to read them here when they were unmoderated. I believe I wrote less due to the moderation. I have decided to adopt limited moderation. Hopefully the prior problems with unfettered comments will not arise again. Please feel free to comment as you wish about the essays I write. I will maintain those comments that offer kind-hearted and gentle opinion... be it positive or negative. The opinions of your comments will, of course, need to have relevance to the post as well.
