Pipe Efforts....
I am now of the mindset that I cannot, as I had hoped for several previous attempts, successfully become an occasional pipe smoker. I believe I need to fully break the tie with the pipe. The idea of a permanent refraining has me nervous, but I believe it is what I need to do. I need to figure out how to make this clean break as pain-free as possible.

I appreciate all forms of comments on my writings. I find that I miss the sponteneity of coming to read them here when they were unmoderated. I believe I wrote less due to the moderation. I have decided to adopt limited moderation. Hopefully the prior problems with unfettered comments will not arise again. Please feel free to comment as you wish about the essays I write. I will maintain those comments that offer kind-hearted and gentle opinion... be it positive or negative. The opinions of your comments will, of course, need to have relevance to the post as well.
I have no advice on how to break a habit, but I wish you the best of luck. Also, a great year in 2018.

If you really want to quit pipe smoking wait until you have retired and have lost all of that work stress.
ReplyDeleteWith that in mind--and until then--just enjoy your pipes every day without any negativity or worry. Once you have the stress reduction of retirement you will be in a much better place to quit. You can enjoy your pipe smoking until then knowing you have a plan in place.
Some alternatives: Try Chantix. Many people think that works. Another alternative is to get some really good vaping equipment. Cigarette smokers are used to grabbing a cigarette and firing up. As a pipe smoker you are very used to dealing with "equipment". Find a good vape shop and get a kit you like working with. Get an ejuice to start with that has lots of nicotine so that you won't miss the nicotine from pipe smoking. Go to the Black Note ejuice website to get some really solid juices that are free of harmful ingredients. There are lots of choices. Either commit to no pipe smoking at all and have vaping as the only nicotine source--or try vaping first at every time you have an urge to pipe smoke, such as after a meal--then feel free to pipe smoke as much as you want, but only after you vaped first. You will relatively quickly develop a desire to vape after triggers such as a meal. There is all kinds of hype but actually there are essentially no known health risks from vaping. You can blast yourself with nicotine while vaping (such as when having your libations) with little risk.
Then--if you want to be nicotine free gradually over a period of time keep dropping the nicotine level of your vaping liquid. After a while you will enjoy vaping zero nicotine vape juice--or will walk away from the thing completely
Your smoke loving buddy, Jack
have you tried the patch?
ReplyDeleteHopes and Dreams card? What a great idea. Your struggle with tobacco, well, I can certainly relate. My most recent attempt to cut down lasted maybe 3 weeks. It has to be a complete break for me also. Good luck Pipe.
