Manual Transmissions
I suspect, because there is still a very high percentage of vehicles in European markets that have manual transmissions available and from what I have read there is still a slight preference in terms of percentages of vehicles sold in Europe WITH manual transmissions compared to automatics....... I have to believe that IF THEY WERE AVAILABLE here in the US, there would be a sizable base of people who WOULD prefer their vehicle to have a manual transmission.

I appreciate all forms of comments on my writings. I find that I miss the sponteneity of coming to read them here when they were unmoderated. I believe I wrote less due to the moderation. I have decided to adopt limited moderation. Hopefully the prior problems with unfettered comments will not arise again. Please feel free to comment as you wish about the essays I write. I will maintain those comments that offer kind-hearted and gentle opinion... be it positive or negative. The opinions of your comments will, of course, need to have relevance to the post as well.
for city traffic jams, an automatic is essential. for cruising country roads standards are great. up here the jap car companies advertise dirt cheap cars but they're standards, when you ask for an automatic, the price skyrockets.
ReplyDeleteI am almost embarrassed to admit that at my ripe old age, Icannot drive a standard.
ReplyDeleteI am 71 years old and have never had a automatic. I was taught to drive in England and everything was standard then when I was seventeen and i've driven nothing else since. I have worked in Toronto for 30 years and drove my standard through all the traffic jams. If all they made were automatics I would have to stop driving.
ReplyDeleteMy last car which I bought new in 2013, I had to order to get a standard shift but I got it!
I think most cars in the UK are manual. We've certainly never considered getting any other. I wouldn't know what to do with my foot. That said, I think my uncle had an automatic Mercedes.
