Short

Sadly, the day is getting away from me again, as I am working feverishly with my research students to try to help them with what they need.  Overall, the work is fine..... there is just too damn much of it at the moment for my comfort.

  • It seems like I used to have a whole helluva lot more free time than I do these days.  I hear many express that same thing around here at the U and I do not understand why.
  • The busy-ness at the moment is driving my pipe cravings up exponentially.  My pipes had always been a salve for times of excessive busy-ness.
  • Ultimately, the snow abated yesterday, so I was able to go out the the cigar store.... but I was so damn late in the day (because of the ongoing busy-ness) that none of my friends remained, and truthfully the place was empty other than the shopkeep.  It was still relaxing, but if that may be what happens on future Thursdays, I will have to either a) figure out a way to amuse myself or b) not go until I can go at the proper time.

More on your plate, more responsibilities? My teaching friends seem to be experiencing the same thing. Sorry that no one remained at the Cigar Group. :(

Two explanations come to mind. More university administrivia, on the one hand. And, on the other hand, the likelihood that your brain marked your former time spent with your pipes as "free time" -- time when you were relaxed and at ease -- even when you were "multitasking" and accomplishing other things while enjoying your pipes. Have a great weekend, Professor!
