Missing the Friendship and Routine
The conference is going well. My presentation was well received and it has been very nice thus far. The weather has been exceptional as well. Feeling temperatures in the low-to-mid 60s is a true delight for this Northerner at this time of year. There have been a few nice gatherings at the conference in the evening as well. And, I did find a fellow pipe smoker to hang around with one evening.
Running outside in the nice weather has been great! Seeing the sites of a new city and location while running always makes the time go by rapidly and the run feels much easier as well while exploring.
I feel a lot of melancholy about my father-in-law, however. When I go to visit him at the nursing/rehab facility he is not very talkative. He mostly will lay on the bed and not say much. He is depressed, and yet I cannot figure out how to help. He does not want to try to get better, and I wish he would try. Normally, this being a Friday, if he were home, we would be having pipes and libations together and talking about all sorts of topics together. But, he has lost the will to try to get better. I do not know how to help.

He's old. Walk in his shoes ...
Enjoy the warm.
Hugs!
There is not much you can do for FiL. He is tired and ready maybe. As long as he is comfortable in the meantime. My uncle just wanted to die for some time. He was depressed and it was impossible to raise his mood. Sometimes we will just have had enough.
show him cat videos on your phone
Getting old is a pain in the ass and wasn't part of my plan.
