Deer Camp

Unfortunately, because of the way the calender worked this year, I was only able to spend a few days up at deer camp, and all the days were *prior* to the actual opening day of hunting season (today). But, as I was not planning on hunting anyway (I did not want to deal with having to process the deer after bagging it, nor do I actually want that much venison anyway.), it was a good weekend of playing cards, drinking, talking about all manner of things, and general carousing.

Hum, I don't need a hunting season or deer camp to do such things, I just go camping any damn time I like.

Of course I don't plan those adventures with other buddies, I just go camping and have interesting experiences with others I've never seen before.

Although in the last year or so I've taken more to just going to wilderness areas where I'm often the only one there.

There is a lot to be said about solitude and reading and getting lost in your own mind.

Call it deer camp if you like, but it was just camping. Being as you didn't hunt I'll assume that you wasn't foolish enough to buy a hunting license and deer tag.

I went to a deer camp once but wasn't interested in hunting, I just did the camp cooking so there was no reason for me to buy a license and tag.

Around 30 years ago I'm hiking in some mountains and a game warden pops up and thinks he's going to be all macho and give me a ticket for hunting out of season.

Without a hunting license even.

"Excuse me, I'm hiking in the mountains and packing some personal protection, you have a problem with that? Unless you see me stalking or shooting something you don't have a case."

He had to toss that around in his mind a bit but had to admit that he didn't.

Who cares what he's drinking, a man needs a little booze on this rock just to tolerate things.
