Not Much

I had the procedure done on my foot, Friday.  Apparently it is not longer "de rigueur" to freeze the damn thing so that it simply falls out shortly after. Instead, he trimmed the spot, and put a drop of acid of some sort on it. It was not salicylic acid like is available at the pharmacy for such things, but is "supposedly" a more potent, strong, and "rapid" acting acid than salicylic.

It is still there, and it still is annoying.  I have now missed THREE days of running and it is just as damn painful to walk as it was before I went to the doctor.

It has not been a good day or good weekend.

Of course it is no longer in fashion.... for the damn thing would be out now and I would be back to normal. Now, I get to continue in pain and get to give him another damn boat payment.

Doctor Appointment

For the first time in a very, very long time, I decided to NOT run this morning.

I have an issue of either a "corn" or maybe perhaps it is a "Plantar wart" on my foot (heel), and it is exceedingly uncomfortable to walk, let alone run.  It is something that I have been experiencing for a number of weeks, but have been trying to ignore and kept pushing through daily running and the extensive walking I do while lecturing and moving around campus. But, about three weeks ago, it became even more noticeable and even more uncomfortable.

It took about a week for me to figure out what the damnable health insurance at the U would cover and how they would cover it.   I then called the podiatrist my wife goes to for her feet (for her diabetes).  The first appointment I could get that would not conflict with my U duties was for tomorrow morning.

Running yesterday was very uncomfortable.  Just walking around is uncomfortable.  I am hoping that this can be a simple procedure tomorrow where he will freeze the damn thing off and I can go on my way.

Overload 2

So.... to let you know where my mind is at..... somehow I published my prior "Overload" without saving the text I had written, nor the image.

This is my attempt to reiterate what I had written in the first "Overload" post but apparently failed to save correctly:

I have been away from here for what seems like a long, long time.  I have been significantly overloaded.  Much of what I have been overloaded with has been very difficult and harsh.  Some what I have been overloaded with has been pleasant.  But, overall..... there has been so many things going on the last few weeks that my head has been spinning.  TOO MANY things per unit of time.

But, I have missed being here greatly.  This is my effort to force myself to get back to regular posting.  I hope to do so from this point forward.

PLUS ONE ADDED NOTE TO PAT (Who commented on my blank post):

Pat..... I have not turned off comments nor comment posting in any way.  All comments SHOULD post normally as far as I know.  In looking back through my comments, the last comment I have from you is on my August 22nd post (and today's (09/25/24.... mistaken, empty post)).  If there were other comments you have made between August 22nd and September 25th, unfortunately, I have NOT seen them.

Hurried Trash

Because of the Labor Day holiday, the day of our trash pickup changes to a day later for this week..... today.... Wednesday.  With Wednesday being my most pressing day, time-wise, this was not the greatest occurrence and had me busting my posterior even earlier than usual.

  • Got up to run at 4:00am.  My new headlamp worked well.  10 miles (~16 km).
  • Had to run around with the usual trash chores.... emptying all waste baskets, deep cleaning the cat's box.  Getting the trash bin and the recycling bin to the curb bright and early (before 7:00am).
  • Pottied our dog.
  • Got ready for heading to the U and made my iced coffee.
  • Arrived at the U at 7:54am.  Proceeded to color my rodents (coloring their fur with a marker for ID purposes.... it wears off after a while).
  • Called the new dentist I will be going to in order to reschedule my appointment as I had not transferred my old records over to the new place yet and the time chosen (a few months ago) now conflicted with my work schedule.  The new date is a week later.
I am already tired.  Now, I need to get ready to get over across campus to teach for four hours of "boisterous" and "engaging" lecturing for my two classes.

Metonym

The other day, I was asked if there was a synonym for the word "synonym".  Initially, I laughed off the question.  But, it stuck with me in the back of my mind. I finally looked up whether there was a try synonym for the word, and even though I could not find a true synonym, I did uncover a new word for me that is SOMEWHAT a synonym for "synonym":

Metonym - a word or phrase used in metonymy.  A figure of speech in which the name of one object or concept is used for that of another to which it is related.

The example given was.... "The crown" is a metonym for "royalty".

So, metonym is a new word for me.   But, I am not sure how or if it is actually different from synonym.

  • We did go play Euchre with my SIL and her husband.  As is typical while playing cards, I allowed myself the indulgence in TWO delightful IPAs.  They were both the delightful "Two Hearted River" IPAs that I am very fond of for their malty, hoppy, dark flavor.
  • I even SPLURGED and allowed myself to eat TWO pieces of pizza while at my SIL's.  Pizza is one of the foods I have TREMENDOUS difficulty in not over-eating.  But, I felt I could contain my ravenous appetite for pizza by making sure my wife and I left any remaining pizza at my SIL's.  We brought two large pizzas with us.  The two slices I ate had Italian sausage, green pepper and onion.  They were blissfully delicious and I could have easily eaten that entire pizza.  It was, I believe, the first pizza I had eaten in 2024.
  • I have been a very busy beaver all weekend long with fussing and painting house trim.  For me it is a task that is VERY time consuming as I am exceedingly (perhaps overly, many would say) meticulous because I become quite aggravated at myself over any form of paint drip, or any deviation from an extremely precise, sharp line.  Mistakes that others may have made before me in painting do not bother me, but if I ADD to a problem, it gnaws at me.  I use a helluva lot of blue painter's tape in my work.  And, I spent a huge number of hours prepping, scraping, and taping even before I picked up a paintbrush for the PRIMER.  The garage doors (two) were the MOST time consuming for they had all manner of nooks and crannies that needed lots of fussing type work.  I laid on the first top coat of the real paint yesterday afternoon.  I am likely to put a second top coat (hopefully the last) later this afternoon.  Then in a week, I can begin the process again (hopefully) with taping (ever so precisely) within the new painted areas for the second color of the contrasting trim.  I want to wait at least a week to allow the new paint to harden before putting even blue painter's tape atop of it.  All weekend long, I allowed myself to grip between my teeth, my "painting pipe".   It is an old, battered, worn pipe I have had for at least 35 years, and it has seen better days.  But, it was the pipe that became my "painting pipe" because it was so battered and worn, I did not care if the bowl had paint finger prints or speckles of paint from rollers.  Over the years, it has served its roll admirably.  Although I would have greatly enjoyed having the pipe filled with tobacco and ignited..... that was not allowable, so I worked at being satisfied with it simply being held between my chompers while I worked.
  • I am off to a decent start running this week.  I ran 10 miles (~16km) yesterday morning on Labor Day, and another 10 miles (~16km) this morning.  So, I did not allow the Holiday to throw me off track on that score.
  • Something unpleasant happened yesterday.  But, I am still mulling it around in my mind currently.  I do not quite know how/what to write about it.  But, I suspect in a few days, I will be able to discuss it further.

I picked the image for today because my new word, metonym.... fostered in my mind, images of a close sounding word, metronome.  I have a metronome much like the image.  My parents bought it for me a little over 50 years ago now.
