Going to a Meeting

I am leaving on a research meeting in the morning.  Unfortunately, this is not one of the have fun with friends research meetings, so I will be having to try to find my own fun... if possible.

Curried Chicjpeas

My wife has just mad a whole crockpot of my very favorite curried chickpeas for part of our dinner later this evening.  I am very pleased.  They are very, very good.  We may go swimming later today as well.  Seems like a nice day is continuing to unfold.

Meanings

The prior post was meant to signify I was "well oiled" meaning a euphemism for saying I had had a couple of "adult beverages," which is of course another euphuism in itself.

Euphemisms are indeed an interesting part of the vernacular of our language.  I enjoy them in my daily speech, and I find that they give color and nuance to what we say in ways that are fun.  Perhaps it is because much of the time I am in "science mode" where euphemisms ARE NOT the norm is why I like them so much in my non-work speech and writings?  I even allude to them a bit in part of my job, when I am teaching.  I find that I can slip in occasional non-standard terms or phrases when I teach.

Well Oiled

I am "well oiled" at the moment.  Not much to say about it other than it is what I am.  I am going to go put on my pajamas and continue to marinate.

Nice, Quiet Day

Today was a nice, quiet day of routine.  The gym, my walk, a leisurely paces work day, swimming, a great Indian/Mexican fusion dinner.  A few pipes.  Pretty damn good, I do say.  Maybe some other pleasures this evening?  It could end up a perfect day!

Getting Gasoline

When I was getting gasoline this morning, a stranger commented  on my pipe as I pulled it out of my pocket rummaging for change to pay for my cup of coffee at the register, "You ought a try weed."  I smiled at him and said, "It sounds fun,  Maybe someday, if it becomes legal in our state."  I have never tried it, but have always wondered what it feels like.  With the previous comments here, it seems a lot of folks are talking about it a lot more, and more and more states are seeming to be gearing up to legalize it.  I always imagine it would be like a nice, pleasant feeling of being drunk.

Cutting the Grass

I am going to spend the afternoon cutting the grass and trying to get to a myriad of yard related items I have been neglecting.  Not really looking forward to it, but the exercise will be good for me, and it should look nice when done.

Cleaning, Teeth, Etc.

Still in the midst of a helluva lot of work.  Right now it happens to be cleaning, but there have been so damn many things I have had to do that my head spins thinking about it (unfortunately, not in a good way, like after ample libations).

An unfortunate event has happened also, that while in the greater scheme of things, is relatively minor, it is a royal pain in the posterior to have happen during all this excessive busyness.  I take very meticulous care of my teeth.  I do so for an array o reasons... To avoid pain, to have good gums, and also because I am at risk for dental problems due my having what the dentist calls "severe" TMJ (Temporandibular Joint Disorder) which I have spoken about previously.

Because I am so meticulous, I have pretty damn good teeth for a fellow my age.  But, due to an unfortunate accident about 16 years ago, I have ONE molar that has a "cap" on it made of porcelain.  Unfortunately, that damnable 16 year old cap broke (a piece of it) a few days ago.  When it first happened, I was afraid I broke a tooth, but it fortunately was only the cap.  The doctor says the tooth underneath is fine.  But, now in all this busyness, I have to squeeze in several appointments to get it replaced.

Lost Time

My life has been so horridly busy, that I have not had time to post.  Some good things have happened but also several difficult things.  But, know I am plugging along taking these changes... hopefully with grace and kindness.  Hopefully also, God is looking out fore and my family.  I pray for this each day.  I anticipate I will be more regular here now than I have been the last several weeks.
